Do you accept keyboards and mice for recycling?
Yes — we take keyboards and mice free, working or broken, any brand and any age. Bring them to Computer Recycling LLC at 125 E 10th Ave, North Kansas City, MO 64116. No appointment, no minimum quantity, no fee. We are open Monday to Friday 8am–3pm and Saturday 8am–2pm. Pull around to the back dock, ring the bell, and our crew comes out to unload for you — most drop-offs take under five minutes. Nothing is landfilled: working gear is refurbished for reuse and the rest is broken down for material recovery through R2v3 or e-Stewards certified partners. Larger volumes can be picked up instead.

What We Accept

Why Recycling Matters
Keyboards contain copper wiring, ABS and PVC plastics, aluminum frames, and small circuit boards with precious metals. Wireless devices add lithium batteries to the mix. While individually small, the sheer volume of discarded peripherals creates significant e-waste. Recycling recovers plastics and metals while preventing battery chemicals from entering landfills.

It is easy to think of a keyboard or mouse as too small to matter, but these peripherals add up fast — offices replace them by the hundreds, and households cycle through them every few years. A single mechanical keyboard contains a steel or aluminum backplate, dozens of copper-contact switches, a full circuit board, and ABS plastic keycaps. Wireless mice and keyboards also include lithium or nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries and small Bluetooth or RF circuit boards with recoverable tin and copper traces.
Before recycling wireless peripherals, remove any AA or AAA batteries and bring them separately — mixing loose batteries with other electronics creates short-circuit risks during transport. Unplug any USB receivers (the small dongles) and toss them in the same bag — they are recyclable too. If you have a wireless keyboard or mouse with a built-in rechargeable battery, just bring the whole unit and we will handle the battery removal safely. For businesses doing office refreshes, peripherals can be boxed together loosely. There is no need to wrap or individually bag them — just fill a box and bring it in.

Do I need to remove batteries from wireless keyboards and mice before recycling?

It is helpful to remove removable batteries (AA or AAA) before recycling, as those can be recycled separately. However, if batteries are built-in (rechargeable lithium-ion), leave them in place and we will handle them safely during the recycling process.
Can I drop off a large number of office keyboards and mice at once?

Yes. We accept bulk drop-offs of keyboards, mice, and peripherals at no charge. Businesses clearing out old office equipment can bring any quantity. For very large volumes, we also offer free scheduled pickups throughout the Kansas City metro. Call (816) 295-2334 to arrange a pickup.

What happens to recycled keyboards and mice?

Recycled keyboards and mice are disassembled at our facility. Plastics, metals, circuit boards, and cables are sorted and sent to specialized processors for material recovery. Nothing goes to a landfill. The recovered materials re-enter manufacturing supply chains, reducing the need for virgin resource extraction.
